Type Locality and Naming

Along the village of Sukayty, West Uzbekistan. O.S. Vyalov, S.I. Ilyin, G.Ya. Meyer et al., 1947 (158, p.20). Stratotype not specified.

Synonym: Sukaytinskaya Suite, Сукайтинская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Divided into three subunits.

Upper - gray, red sandstones, shell rocks, clays, siltstone (aleurolites). Thickness 10-100 m.

Middle - gray, greenish-gray clays with thin interlayers of siltstone (aleurolites) and sandstones. Thickness 10-90m.

Lower - greenish-gray sandstones with interlayers of clays, siltstone (aleurolites), gravellites, and conglomerates. Thickness 1030m.


Lithology Pattern: 
Sandy limestone


Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The formation lies with erosion on the Karaiz Fm and transgressively on the Paleozoic

Upper contact

Overlain with erosion by the Carnap formation.

Regional extent

The Zirabulak-Ziaetdin Mountains, Karaiz; on adjacent plains, well exposed.

Upper – Contains marine bivalve mollusks - Plicatula batnensis Coq., P. multicostata Forb.; foraminifera - Paragaudryina babaevi Suleim., P. inornata Suleim., Gaudryinella pseudoasiatica antiqua Suleim.

Middle – Contains marine bivalve mollusks - Inoceramus labiatus Schloth.; foraminifera - Reophax kysylcumensis Suleim., Ammomarginulina amudariensis (Zhuk.), Vialovia zerabulakensis Suleim., Gaudryinopsis asiaticus (N. Byk.), Paragaudryina inornata Suleim.

Lower – Contains foraminifera - Gaudryinopsis asiaticus (N. Byk.), Paragaudryina inornata Suleim.


Age 

Upper – Belongs to the middle Turonian. Middle – Belongs to the lower + middle Turonian. Lower – Belongs to the middle - upper Cenomanian.The formation belongs to the middle Cenomanian - middle Turonian; Along O.S. Vyalov, - to the Senonian (158); Along I.S. Suleimanov (464), - to the Cenomanian - Turonian; in the Strat. Sl. (446) - to the Senonian (313; 445).
